(includes a healthy dollop of young-vines Santenots juice and a few barrels of the Clos des Chenes, which was hit hard by hail in '04) Good dark red. Ripe aromas of black cherry and chocolate. Dense and fairly concentrated, but with a slightly gritty texture for Volnay. There's something roasted and a bit autumnal here but the wine has firm acidity. Finishes with fine, slightly drying tannins.

Here the aromas are clearly less ripe though perhaps even more complex with an earthy mix of red and black pinot fruit aromas that lead to rich, sweet and mouth coating flavors that offer good volume and just enough phenolic maturity to avoid undue aggressiveness.
