The Ladera story has many facets; each very important to us and our heritage. We focus on our wines but you can’t talk about wine without knowing about the winemaking and there would be no winemaking without a winery. Our 1886 stone winery is our history and its foundation supports the balance of our efforts.
Serious blueberry, blackberry, and violets on the nose, with the blackberries following to the palate. Vanilla oakiness on the finish. Tannins are present, but fairly well integrated, drying the mouth slightly on the finish. Tasty Napa cab, and my second bottle of this. Not as moved by it as the first bottle, but that was decanted for over an hour, and this is a pop-n-pour. Dumped rest into decanter, and will revisit in a couple hours. After additional air time in the decanter, this improved slightly, but still a touch too much oak and tannin on the finish.
Decanted 1 hour. Gorgeous nose of blueberry, cassis, and a floral component I can't place. Big (and I mean BIG) flavors of blueberries and black currants wth some oaky vanilla. Incredibly long finish with a hint of pepper and wood. The flavors just move around my mouth like there is still wine in there. Amazing. High acidity, firm tannins, and big fruit make this one well-integrated, delicious wine. Possibly a touch too much oak, but, while Gary Vaynerchuk would disapprove (OAK MONSTER--RAAAAA!!), I like it. Definitely not the oakiest beast I've tasted by a long shot. Drinking VERY well right now, with some air time. Outstanding - 94 points.

...Extravagant nose combines blackberry tobacco sandalwood minerals smoked meat and Islay scotch. Sweet suave and thick; at once slightly roasted and lightly vegetal. Rather elegant texture. Finishes with sweet tannins very good length and a hint of greenness... Stephen Tanzers IWC.
