Food Pairings for Ladera Cabernet Sauvignion Howell Mountain Napa Valley
The thing about wine for me is that the good ones elicit good memories more than they conjure up a bunch of silly comparisons to things people don't really taste in wine...like wet earth and pencils. Wet earth and pencils don't strike me as enjoyable attributes of a wine. I had this wine with my wife at a small restaurant in Palo Alto, CA while we were on a long weekend away from our little kids. Can't remember if I loved the wine, or if the dinner was memorable or if we had a nice conversation. In any event, if I spot this wine in the market, I'll buy it again.
This is classic mountain (Howell Mt.) cabernet sauvignon. The color couldn't be any darker. Bouquet is of dark fruits of plum and cherry and a hint of damp earth. On the palate an explosion of dark fruits, more than I would expect from a mountain cab, along with an earthiness. Tannins are there but really not overpowering. The finish is fairly long. This wine is drinkable now and possibly for several more years.
from San Francisco magazine: "A grand red for your more elegant holiday dinner parties, it makes a gorgeous accompaniment to that perfect filet mignon with a chanterelle ragout."
Wonderful Howell Mountain wine and drinking so nicely right now.
Deep, earthy flavor with a hint of chocolate.
Super smooth with deep berry undertones
Why? Fantastic up-and-coming Cult" favorite since the previous vintage was featured on the cover of Wine & Spirits magazine and rated 95 points! This vintage just released and its even more BIG and age-worthy. PORTHOS INSIDER SCOOP: Trust me, this is our top pick for up-and-coming, boutique winery to start collecting! Jump on board and order what you want now because our while this wine will age gracefully over the next decade well sell out of our tiny allocation soon. TASTE? Big, bold and age-worthy with elegant layers of raspberry, cherry, cassis and anise seed with delightful tones of vanilla extract and lightly toasted oak on the finish. This is a truly voluptuous wine with a velvetty smooth texture combined with plush tannins on the long-lasting finsish! The tannins are prominent now and bode well for an remarkable experience over the next 7 10 years, peaking around 2014 in our estimate..or pair this delicious new creation with a big steak tonight (after decanting at least one hour) and then save a few bottles for your cellar.
