Really tight when first opened but with patience and some swirling it open up and gave a hard cherry candy nose with a slightly fruity palate and some firm tannin on the finish. Second day it was like sticking your nose in a bag of candy. Simple but pretty darn good for the price range.

My Rating 83. This wine is a simple wine in the tradition of the southern Rhone Region. A blend of four different wines. The nose is medium berry very long. The taste is light with neither an objectional taste nor a interesting flavour. This is good for a garden party on a hot afternoon. Don't invite a wine lover he midgt not like it. At $ 11 for a 1,5 L Bottle it's fine, at least for the before mentioned occassion.

Wanted an inexpensive night wine and there it was, a Ventoux. Twist and pour. Dusty nose with faint fruit and perhaps a bit of earth. In the mouth good acid and sour ripe deep fruit (plum, blackberry, perhaps cherry) followed by a warm finish with strong waxy dark chocolate infused with bittersweet herbs (might be bitter tannin, not sure). Off-dry, has a bit of sweet in it. Body medium, acid medium, tannin medium. 13.5%. Has an interesting finish but tends to have an aftertaste and is not well-balanced. Sigh, well I like the twist top, perhaps the bottle is off.

This wine is rated favorably by Parker and others, but struck me as borderline unpleasant. Maybe my taste buds were in an off-kilter state, but this wine smelled and tasted to me like a combination of medicinal cherry fruit and overcooked asparagus. Reminded me of an old-time jug wine or mediocre airlines wine. Even for the price, I'd look elsewhere.

The warmth of Southern France comes through in the blackberry jam flavors of this spicy, traditional blend of grenache, syrah, carignan and cinsault, a match for lamb stewed with olives.

Fresh and stylish, with black cherry, grilled herb and tobacco notes that linger on the tender, mineral-tinged finish. Drink now.

Talk about "bang for your buck," this wine from the Côtes du Ventoux is an absolute steal. Ventoux, located in the Southern Rhône area, is dominated by the 6,500 foot tall Mount Ventoux. Most of the grapes are grown around this land mass, on the very high slopes of this massive mountain, giving them direct access to needed sunshine and perfect climate. Selected and assembled by the renowned Jean-Pierre Perrin, this blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre is lightly fined and filtered, giving it a complex yet very approachable and pleasurable taste.

Friendly cherry, damson plum and herb notes are lined with a hint of lavender, followed by a lightly dusty finish. Drink now.

The owners of Château de Beaucastel, the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape, created this brand 20 years ago as a Côtes-du-Rhône that sold for $1.99 and promptly became our house red. It was so successful that the source appellation was moved over to the nearby Côtes du Ventoux in order to fill the demand. Spicy, chewy, ripe and ready, with excellent structure.

Tasty black cherry and tobacco flavors with a slightly firm structure. Rock solid value. Grenache, Syrah, Carignane and Cinsault. Drink now.

Juicy, with a range of dark cherry and currant fruit layered with briar and tar notes on the medium-weight finish. Drink now.
