In the early 1800s the grandfather Giuseppe Rivetti, whose nickname was Pin, emigrated to Argentina from Neive. Once he returned to Piedmont he founded the family winery and brought his children up in Castagnole Lanze to be dedicated and expert winegrowers. The Sassontino is made up of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Colorino from a 30 year old vineyard at Casanova. It shows gorgeous dark ruby red with aromas of black cherry and vanilla. This delectible red is full bodied with sweet tannins, very finely balanced oak and acidity with a long, fine finish. The elegance of this wine is remarkable, reflecting the 12 to 14 months it has spent in oak barrels. Make sure you drink this wine with flavourful and highly seasoned red meats, or richly exuberant sauces, or save it for a special occasion as this wine will mature over the next 25 years.
