Ruby red with purple reflections. Intense, with scents reminding of red cherry, blueberry and cassis. Nice acidty, and good, balanced tannins.

The Barbera d'Asti Ca' di Pian is a very upfront wine which currently shows a very balanced use of barrique. Ten months ageing succeeds in smoothing out any harsh acidity with the vanilla sweetness of new wood, without compromising the rich, red fruit. This is excellent served with roasted red and white meats, and strong cheeses. Specific pairs might include: penne with stir-fried beef and red bell pepper, provencal lamb with Mediterranean vegetables, pistachio-crusted pork with plum sauce and fried leeks or spiced venison steaks with red-cabbage confit and red-wine sauce.
