- Issue 8 details the origins of this new domaine (2002 was only its third harvest) directed by a young team of two brothers, Jean-Guillaume and Jean-Philippe Bret who do some of the best vineyard work I've yet seen in the Mâcon. They told me that they love the 2002 vintage, describing it as having the maturity of 2000 with the finesse of 2001. We harvested very ripe grapes with no rot. We were lucky because there was a lot of rain at the beginning of September and because it was warm, rot began to set in but thankfully, the north wind arrived, drying up the rot and concentrating the fruit. The brothers read more...also started a small négociant operation in 2001 with one wine and as can be seen by the expanded range of wines in 2002, they've expanded it, noting that we buy only hand harvested fruit from old vines worked in a manner than we agree with. This isn't about quantity, it's about quality and we think we can find more top quality sources. As the scores suggest, the quality here is remarkable and if you've yet to try any of the Bret wines, I think you're in for a treat. This is domaine to watch as it's a star in the making. (A Becky Wasserman Selection/Le Serbet, Beaune, France - sbw@wanadoo.fr ; Morris & Verdin, UK). Note: from 75 year old vines A beautiful nose of white flower, citrus and intense botrytis aromas are followed by powerful yet remarkably fine and complex flavors that display a touch of finishing warmth and simply superb length. This would make a fine accompaniment to fresh foie gras. (hide)

Note: from 75 year old vines A completely different expression save for the fabulous intensity with elegant and pure white flower and citrus-infused aromas followed by powerful yet remarkably fine flavors that display a touch of finishing warmth and simply superb length. Again, knock out quality and highly recommended. (hide)
