What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Winemakers Notes

The 2003 La Sirena Syrah is deep, dark ruby purple in color. A much bigger wine than it's Santa Ynez counterpart. Loaded with black fruit character and a smoky meaty tone that is so enticing in Syrah. Those flavors, I believe are part of the true varietal character of Syrah. Hints of white pepper and spice add layers of complexity and interest. In the mouth it is very structural, rich and ripe; a big wine that will further improve with bottle age. Had this wine recently at a restaurant decanted, and it was delicious. Why "La Sirena"? The name "La Sirena" means "the Mermaid read more..."in Spanish and Italian. I chose it because I was looking for something fun and magical (like wine) and because I love to scuba dive as well as make wine. Our first vintage of La Sirena was 1994 and we made only a Sangiovese that year. The first Cabernet was made in 1996 and we no longer made the Sangiovese after the 1999 vintage due to a vineyard change. There are currently two wines made under this label; Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
