Bright, saturated red-ruby. Aromas of blueberry, black cherry, bitter chocolate and licorice; shows both jammy and medicinal qualities. Youthfully tight, somewhat tart-edged black fruit flavors seem quite clenched today, with the tannins a bit dry. This will develop slowly, but will it blossom in bottle? (A retaste of the 1999 sangiovese confirmed that the last vintage of this wine under the La Sirena label produced a 90-point wine with unusually complex aromatics, supple texture and excellent depth of flavor.)
