96 points James Suckling: This is so rich and layered with lots of ripe cherry and wet earth aromas and flavors. Full body, chewy and polished tannins. It lasts for minutes on the palate. Impressive and persistent. Better in 2018. (2/28/16)

  La Serena is a wine estate in the Montalcino district in Tuscany, Italy. The estate has been in the Mantengoli family since the 1930s, but wines weren’t produced until the late 1980s by brothers Andrea and Marcello.   La Serena is a wine estate in the Montalcino district in Tuscany, Italy. The estate has been in the Mantengoli family since the 1930s, but wines weren’t produced until the late 1980s by brothers Andrea and Marcello. The vineyards, planted with 100% Sangiovese, are located in the Torrenieri zone, in an elevated section in the northeast corner of Montalcino. The wines are produced with the consultation of oenologist Paolo Caciorgna. Both the Brunello and Rosso di Montalcinos have gotten rave reviews and continue to impress in recent vintages. La Serena is poised for full organic certification starting in the 2013 vintage.  Read less
