Andrea Mantengolis family has owned the original La Serena property since 1933. In 1988 Mantengoli began estate bottling and proceeded to grow the estate from 1 to 8.5 HA. His is currently in the conversion process to become certified organic and should be complete by the 2013 vintage. La Serena is aged exclusively in 20 HL French oak for 24 months. - Winery

La Serena's 2008 Brunello di Montalcino explodes from the glass with a heady melange of aromas and flavors. Mocha, espresso, licorice, plums and the blackest of cherries saturate the palate. A large-scaled, voluptuous Brunello, the 2008 could use another year or two in bottle to settle down a bit further. It should drink well for another handful of years. There is plenty of La Serena's typical boldness in the glass. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2023. - Robert Parker 91+ Points A rich yet vibrant red, sporting flavors of cherry, currant and tobacco backed by a spine of mouthcoating tannins. Offers underlying notes of balsamic and underbrush, with a lingering finish. Best from 2017 through 2033. 2,000 cases made. -BS Good medium ruby-red. Redcurrant, licorice, graphite and violet on the perfumed nose. Juicy and plump, with lively acidity giving lift to the flavors of redcurrant, licorice and minerals. Finishes clean and long, with a note of underbrush...
