La Sera Barbera Il Cielo 2004
Barbera "Il Cielo" is produced by Marco Monchiero from excellent Alba hillside vineyards with low yields. It is aged 10 months in French and Slovenian oak. Layers of ripe blackberry and cherry fruit combine with cocoa, pepper-spice, toasted oak, vanilla and tobacco aromas and flavors. They are supported by lively acidity and a rich lingering finish. Pair the "Il Cielo" with roasted lamb, grilled duck breast, stuffed Portobello mushroom, and firm aged cheeses.
La Sera is a brand, not a winery. Good brand, though.
