La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904 2007
Just a classic Gran Reserva on the nose with dill and vanilla from American oak layered under raspberry fruit with all sorts of dried thyme, barn floor, dried grass and earthy leathery nuances adding complexity. At first this is quite lean in the mouth, built an vibrant acids and modest if firm tannins, with air this gains weight on the palate and inklings of dark berry fruit start framing the core of tart red fruit. The backend begins to turn silky and gains the weight that adds some plushness to the finish. This is remarkable today for it’s perfume but still needs some time in bottle or decanter to show it’s best. 93ptsAdd winemaker's notes

Sour cherry and super gentle forest floor tones are meet by incipient mushroom notes on the nose all wrapped up in nicely burnished cranberry and raspberry fruit. This is super supple in the mouth with a gorgeous mouthfeel, elegant, refined, and oh so balanced. There’s tons of black cherry fruit here along with black tea, and soft carob notes that lead to a long finish full of red cherry and spiced cherry fruit followed by hints of oak, leather, dried spice mushroom and raspberry on the finale. 93pts

Enjoyed this on 2 March, 2014. Should be noted that we had the 1994 Musar before this wine, so a tough comparison with a real classic. But this is a classic too, mid-dark ruby color turning light at the edges with an almost transparent rim. The nose is perfumed with dill, red berries, earth and vanilla. The palate is dry, smooth, light-bodied with a silky taste featuring red cherry, dried strawberry, leather cranberry, and, sorry if I say it, Finnish dill cooked cray fish. This wine is beyond its peak now and should be enjoyed within the next 12-18 months. But now it is still elegant, well-balanced, and even graceful.
Bricking brownish red in color. Dried fruit, sour cherry on the nose. Sour pomegranate on the palate with lively acidity supporting a sweet sour core of fruit. Some crushed rock on the back end just before a nice medium plus finish. Slinky light mouth-feel with some impressions of soil also in the mix. 92 points.
Absolutely love this wine! Watch out cause the cork will crumble if you are not careful. Aged beautifully in the bottle ruby red color soft tannins and amazing complexity!Very aromatic!
Excellent value for the money (~30-35 eur). Ruby red with dark brick on the rim, medium body, elegant, velvet texture with strong earth and spicy notes, vanilla, dried berries and nuts. Already on its peak, or even a little passed...
Undoubtedly over-oaked, but makes sense with a serious roast or suchlike. Great example of old-school rioja, and almost limitless aging potential..

Deep ruby. Complex, highly perfumed scents of dark berry compote, cherry pit, pipe tobacco and vanilla. Smoky, sweet and focused, offering vibrant black raspberry, bitter cherry and vanilla bean flavors that gain power with air. This doesn’t act like a 12-year-old wine! Finishes smooth and very long, with lingering sweetness and gentle, fine-grained tannins.
The 2001 Gran Reserva 904 will not be released for another 3 years. Dark ruby-colored with a garnet rim, it displays a lovely nose of Asian spices, incense, tobacco, balsamic, and blackberry. On the palate it has exceptional depth, layers of spicy black fruit, excellent ripeness, and an elegant personality. Upon release it should continue to evolve for another 5–6 years and drink well through 2040.
Beautiful cigar box orange peel clove and rose aromas draw you into this mature supple red which shows pronounced acidity and dried citrus tobacco and spice flavors. A bit lean a reflection of the vintage but a lovely example of the traditional style. Drink now. TM Wine Spectator.
Made from mostly Tempranillo, this wine is aged in barrel for four years and in bottle for another four. It is very gently filtered and may have natural sediment at the bottom of the bottle. A silky soft mouth feel, this wine is very delicate with a long finish. Dusty red cherries, baking spices and mocha notes pop from the glass.
