La Posta Malbec Angel Paulucci Vineyard 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

90 Points Wine Spectator Juicy and ripe with lots of fig blackberry mocha and currant paste notes that pump through the rich fleshy finish. Solid acidity keeps it honest.

Angel Paulucci's family has produced wine in Italy since the early 1800's, and Angel arrived in Mendoza with his parents in 1953 at the age of 21. In 1960, he planted his first Malbec vineyard, and in 1970 he planted a special block of Malbec vines in Ugarteche at the southern limit of the Lujan de Cuyo department. If you get Angel talking, plan to stay awhile—he will regale you with childhood stories of enemy soldiers firing bullets into his family's red wine barrels so that they could quench their thirst. And of course, he will tell you about his vineyard: very tight spacing, superficial irrigation, lime-laden soils, and Malbec grapes that make an old-timer smile. Read less

Smells a bit poo-ey, at first with a touch of funk that blows off to reveal dark earthy scents of sandy soil, almost a bit of nasty beach, fudgy, a bit odd and decidedly gamy with lurking floral tones. It’s very supple in the mouth, lovely bright fruits, ok acids are accentuated by juicy flavors. There is a layered quality to the wine with the funky, earthy, sulphury note poking through the rather pure black raspberry liquor blanket of fruit. Nicely balanced seamless and round in the mouth, finish is sapid but a little short and simple yet has lovely, refreshing mineral, anise and peppery tones. This needs some time to work it's kinks out but will be lovely. 2010-2014 Great for smoky grilled beef or even better duck 91pts

Nicely rounded, smooth Malbec -especially fror a young Malbec. Structure cries out for a rice or pasta meal as it is supple and adaptable. Light berry aroma has a hint of chocolate. Would rate higher if it cost a few bucks less. Still good value.

Id have to say this was a huge disappointment. Perhaps if you like Merlot, you could tolerate this wine. If you dont like Merlot, you'll likely find it repulsive. Even if this is your style of wine, it's not particularly well made, or balanced, and certainly doesnt warrant the $15 price tag.
