External Reviews for La Poderina Brunello
I adored La Poderinaandrsquo;s 2001 Brunello di Montalcino and had high hopes for the 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio Banale but unfortunately it misses the mark. It is a perfect example of a wine that has too much of everything. The fruit is super-ripe, overly sweet and excessively concentrated. An exuberant use of oak has left the wine with hard, unpolished tannins that dominate its balance. Despite all of those shortcomings it remains an excellent, well-made wine, which makes its flaws all the more a pity. This wine had all the potential to be one of the vintageandrsquo;s best Brunellos. Anticipated maturity: 2009andndash;2019.
Dark in color, with intense blackberry aromas that evolve into licorice, vanilla and cherry. Full-bodied, with gorgeous flavors and ultravelvety tannins. Goes on and on. Best after 2010. 480 cases made. JS Wine Spectator. A Sangiovese Grosso wine from Tuscany in Italy. 2001 La Poderina Brunello di Montalcino Poggio Banale 750ml
The estate’s brooding 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is tarry and earthy, offering potent notes of backward dark fruit and smoke on a big, strapping frame with outstanding length, great overall balance and plenty of style. With some air it is absolutely irresistible today, but it also appears to have enough stuffing to age for at least another decade. Anticipated maturity: 2006–2016.
