La Monacesca Verdicchio di Matelica Was 2006
With this wine we are trying to match the highest expression of our terrior coming from Verdicchio grapes cultivated in the little but top-qualuty hamlet of Matelica, with the concept of pleasure does not have any limits or boundries. Structure and ageing will allow this wine to be even better in time.
One of the most famous wineries in the Verdicchio di Matelica DOC producing quality wines year on year with the standard Verdicchio bottling a very fair price at around £8 (2011). The riserva versions have won various awards with Gambero Rosso. With 27 hectares under vine and 170,000 bottles produced per year and many for export finding wines from La Monacesca is easy. Look out especially for the Verdicchio di Matelica Mirum Riserva.
Wonderful deep golden colour, none of your wishy-washy, thin, bland Italian whites here thank you very much. Not much to the floral aroma but a weighty palate that matches wonderfully with the food. Flavours are laced with a touch of honey, a minerally texture, and plenty of stony fruit that power right through to the herby finish. Refreshingly crisp acidity on the finish. Elegant. http://www.spittoon.biz/la_monacesca_verdicchio_di_mat.html
