Patience will be rewarded with this style of Bordeaux that typifies restraint and subtlety. The deep ruby-colored 2000 is an impressive youthful Haut-Bailly. It offers endearing notes of black cherries raspberries and currants mixed with tobacco smoke soil overtones and subtle wood. The acidity is low the tannin is present and the overall quality is pure and well-balanced. This is a classic example of finesse and elegance... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
Wonderful finesse and length to this wine. Loads of plum and berry, with hints of raspberry. Full-bodied, with a solid, velvety core of ripe fruit and tannins. Long finish... Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2000 Haut Bailly 750ml
A beautiful, soft, richly fruity wine with silky tannins, loads of blue fruits, and hints of smoky barbecue and graphite, the 2000 La Chapelle de La Mission is fleshy, evolved, and complex, a top-notch success that gets a slight upgrade from my original review. Drink it over the next 5-10 years.
The 2000 La Mission Haut-Brion is certainly one of the candidates for the wine of the vintage. Its performance was off-the-charts in two separate tastings for this report. Deep blue/purple, with a nose of creme de cassis, floral scents, graphite, and subtle smoke, the wine is pure, deep, sumptuously textured, full-bodied, powerful (although certainly not at the power level of the amazing 2009). This wine certainly transcends its 13% natural alcohol and has the same level of concentration found in such great vintages of La Mission Haut-Brion as 1989, 1982, 1975, and of course, more recent efforts such as 2005, 2008, and 2009. Still young but beginning to display some secondary nuances, the wine has enormous layers of depth as well as an unctuous texture. Even though it is still quite youthful, I believe it will hit its prime in another 3-4 years and last 50 or more. It is certainly a wine that will likely jump dramatically in price once the price of the 2009 is released.
Beautiful color, very deep with a mixing of the Haut-Brion ruby and its purple-violet shade of youth. Swishing the wine around in the glass gives a notion of its density. This complexity is followed up in the aromas that suddenly burst forth all at once: a woody hint of fine polished oak, mulberry jam, cherry pits, a touch of blackcurrant, and the bittersweet of mango. One discovers this complexness again with even more violence in the mouth. The specific notes of this vintage: the finesse of mocha, the toasted trace of praline all join with the above, melding together with tannins of great complexity and softness. The finish is never ending… Exceptional bottle. To be drunk today, tomorrow and surely even 100 years from now.
