La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Howell Mountain Selection 2010
92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon shows considerable richness, breadth and power. Dark red berries, grilled herbs, licorice and new leather flesh out in this generous, large-scaled wine. Sweet floral, and mentholated notes are layered into the delineated, tense finish. This is a decidedly soft, gentle wine for Howell Mountain, perhaps because of the addition of 10% Merlot in the blend, which also includes smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. (Dec 2012)

Editorial Reviews for La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Howell Mountain Selection
Hard and rich smelling with great depth on the nose. This is imposingly rich and packed with fruit blackberry fruit accented with bay leaf, cocoa and baking spices. Wow this smells impressive, and on the palate it delivers the goods. Remaining very young and rich this is packed with dark cassis fruit and has a huge palate presence filled with ripe fruit tannins and superbly integrated acidity. It’s not yet fully open on the finish but the snappy, crisp acidity gives this phenomenal focus through the mouth and keeps that intense core of fruit fresh and bright. The finish reveals notes of earth, spice and some herbal stemminess and gains surprising finesse with air. A real find. 95pts

The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon comes across as gorgeous and round in its expressive dark red and black fruit, earthiness, menthol, spices and graphite. The firm Howell Mountain tannins are there, but the presence of Merlot (12%) helps to soften the wine... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2009 Jota, La Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 750ml
The 2006 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits rich, mountain-fruit intensity. Opulent aromas with a rich nose of cassis, nuances of wild strawberry and forest-earth. A small blend of Merlot, capped by some Petit Verdot provide broad tannins and spice. Black currant fruits, plum and blueberries give this wine a rich and full bodied flavor.
"Our stand-alone 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from select blocks at La Jota shines with focused cassis
Winemaker Notes - Aromas of mocha, blackberry and toast compliment the palate of clove, cinnamon, boysenberry and toast. A fine balance of oak to fruit and a wonderfully long finish tie all of these characteristics together in a wine that speaks of all that is Howell Mountain yet is approachable now.
Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 96Classic Howell Mountain tannins, powerful and focused, but ripely sweet, frame opulent cherry, cassis, plum sauce and new oak flavors, and for all that, there's a crisp edge of acidity that makes everything clean and bright. Drink now through 2012.Wine & Spirits ReviewRated 94The graciousness of the fruit defies the tannic weight of this wine, leaving a velvet impression, remarkably approachable for a young Howell Mountain cabernet, and extremely delicious. It's from vines the Smith family, the founders of La Jota, originally planted in the late '70s. The structure is there, underpinning the fresh black fruit, the acidity edging it with eucalyptus. Plump and satin-textured on release, this should age into a beauty. Drink 2010-'12 with a grilled rib eye.Wine Tasting NotesThe Anniversary Release commemorates the anniversary of production and features small lot fermentations of the best vineyard selections. It's a deep purple color with dark fruit and a prominent spice box, tobacco, leather and toasty oak aroma. The mid-palate is pronounced with a sweet, long finish accompanied by hints of chocolate. This is a full-bodied, rich wine, full of jams and dense blackberry flavors. Its also reminiscent of a crisp autumn day on Howell Mountain when the vineyards become an aromatic mlange of pine needles, oak leaves and volcanic soils.
