La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 1992

Winemaker's Notes:

Howell Mountain Cabernet is a blend of fruit from the Beatty Ranch and the Black Sears Vineyard, among the oldest vineyards in the appellation. The Beatty Ranch is known for its rich, concentrated Cabernet fruit flavors, while the Black Sears brings exotic spice and richness to the blend. Each vineyard is dry farmed for low yields and exceptional quality. We harvest from select blocks to achieve the utmost intensity and depth of flavor. The grapes were hand-harvested and sorted, then given a five-day cold soak before fermentation. The must was allowed to warm, and natural indigenous yeast began the fermentation. After pressing, the wine was aged for 20 months in 100% new French oak. In the glass, the wine is a dark, warm ruby, with the fragrance of violet and vanilla. The nose quickly opens to aromas of ripe, spicy fruit and savory roasts. On the palate are juicy and penetrating flavors of baked cherries, cinnamon and toasted oakwood. Perfectly balanced, with moderate acidity, medium full body and pleasant grainy texture, this is a classic mountain Cabernet.

The just-released 1992s from La Jota are stunning. The 1992 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain ion is a broad-shouldered intensely-flavored full-bodied wine with gobs of blackcurrant fruit gently infused with subtle new oak. It possesses the opulence and density of the 1992 vintage and can be drunk now or over the next 20 years. La Jota s twenty acres of vineyards situated high up on Howell Mountain behind the small village of Angwin has consistently proven to be a superb source for red wi
