La Finca Malbec 2009
Pale typicity, high alcohol nose, hint of musty cork, although it was plastic, lighter colour than normal. Young tannin, not much fruit. Earthy, slight cigar, Pretty balanced with long finish. Oddly tastes better on the finish than in the mouth or aroma. $3.99, Trader JoesAdd winemaker's notes
Found in Trader Joe's as a regular item.

even though this was a very inexpensive bottle and i have come to not have super/high expectations of wines in this particular price range -- i was not impressed by either the nose/pallet/finish.
La Finca is a decent Malbec for such a low price. Having sold wine at the wholesale level for a major distributor out of Denver, I get annoyed at the wine snobs who knock a decent yet inexpensive wine. Yes this one may need to go on the shelf for awhile, but it is not a bad wine as some of the drones portray. You get what you pay for and a nice innocent Malbec for four bucks is pretty amazing. Then you have to take into account the vintage conditions and all that erodite stuff which is mostly hype. Come on guys, it is a $3.99 a bottle of wine. The rest of us will enjoy it out on the deck and not worry about the Robert Parker rating. Ha Ha.
The 2009 is not good. One of the worst Malbec I've had, as a matter of fact, worse than the 2009 Fuerza. Nose is spoiled broccoli with cherry (good) undertones and the pallet is not particularly exciting and tastes of charcoal (which I like) but has an extended finish of Velveeta cheese product. Kind of a bizarre wine and I'd definitely NOT recommend it for anything but cooking with. I'm a huge fan of cheap Malbec but pay $2 more and get a wine that's 50x better. For a tiny bit more ($11) get Gascon--crazy value and I'd pay $30-40 for an old world wine of Gascon quality.
if you like 3 buck chuck--and buy it buy the case as i do, you will LOVE this malbec for only a dollar more...wine doesn't have to be expensive to be good...just returned from TJ's and was very disappointed that the La Finca malbec was completely out :( i'm quite sure there is a 30 dollar bottle out there that would knock my socks off, but #1 i'm too cheap, and #2 i'm usually w/o socks anyway ;) nose? pallet? finish? on a 3.99 bottle? really people??
