What to Expect

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

Winemakers Notes

La Crema was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavored Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from cool climate. Continuing this tradition, La Crema pursues the ultimate expression of the Russian River Valley, Carneros and Anderson Valley by handcrafting wines of distinctive flavor which achieve elegance and balance. Like the Burgundy wine region of France, the vineyards of Sonoma Coast offer an unusually long, cool and even growing season. Lingering fog and wind from the nearby Pacific Ocean (or, in Los Carneros’ case, the San Pablo Bay), moderate temperatures read more...

Editorial Reviews

Rating: 90/100 - As reviewed by Wine & Spirits Magazine on 10/09 This wine has a pain grillé scent from oak aging, and a silky butter-and-sugar corn freshness. It's supple and round, focused mainly on textural pleasure. A smoky chardonnay for grilled lobster.

An elegant, stylish Chardonnay with understated fruit flavors of apples and melons, along with nuts and a bit of mineral. A wine of depth, complexity, and staying power.

This has been a great "everyday" wine, it has a smooth buttery vanilla overtone. The price seems to be climbing due to it's growing popularity, but it's definitely worth $20 a bottle.

We love this chardonnay. Oaky and full bodied and not too expensive.

I know WS gave this 90 pts and deservedly so. It's smooth and creamy with nose of fig, pineapple and almost honeysuckle. Nothing overpowering, both the nose and the palate are balanced excellently. It's got just the right amounts of butter, oak, and tropical fruit flavors without anything taking over. Crisp, clean and a lovely finish. All in all, one of the absolute best chardonnay experiences I have had and at such a reasonable price, wow!

WA 90pts. - According to the Wine Advocate: There are 6,200 cases of the 2007 Chardonnay Russian River. It exhibits plenty of tropical fruit and honeysuckle along with a touch of spice, full-bodied, rich flavors, and a subtle note of oak. This wine was 100% barrel-fermented and was put through 100% malolactic fermentation, but the oak is kept in the background. This Chardonnay / Pinot Noir specialist should receive rave notices from bargain hunters looking for a top-flight Chardonnay that is complex, rich, and widely available. Tasting Notes - Bursts with enticing aromas of citrus, floral read more...
