What to Expect

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

Winemakers Notes

"Our goal is to truly convey the Russian River terroir. This wine offers aromas of fresh pear, butterscotch and hazelnut with appealing hints of vanilla and spice. Juicy flavors of yellow apple, honeysuckle and lemon butter lead to a rich, toasty finish."
- Melissa Stackhouse, La Crema Winemaker

The 2006 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay bursts with enticing aromas of citrus, floral notes, butterscotch, lemonpeel and a slight spicy quality. In the mouth, flavors of citrus, pear and honeysuckle combine with subtletoast and caramel, adding richness and texture to the long, lingering finish. - Melissa Stackhouse, Winemaker

The best way I can describe this is that it is smooth and rich with little to no acidity that one is accustomed to finding in chardonnays. Pear and honey were very apparent and I don't typically like this type of wine. This one was delicious though and I even bought a bottle. I opened it 2 days later.

In the case of Melissa Stackhouse at La Crema, she is keeping it brisk and clean. The vineyard sites are all located within 25 miles of the coast and the freshness read more...
