La Crema Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2015

External Review by WineExpress.com:

La Crema has made its name by producing outstanding wines from the best regions in California for Burgundian varietal; Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Now they've branched out to the other stellar U.S. location for world class Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley. With estate vineyards in the Eola-Amity and Yamhill-Carlton AVA's they've been able to produce a wine that's La Crema style and quality but with the distinct fingerprint of the cool Willamette Valley. In many ways the 2015 growing season in the Willamette Valley mirrored outstanding 2014 and is thought of as near perfect. Fruit was sourced from eight exquisite vineyards in the Willamette Valley, including La Crema's estate Gran Moraine vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA and Zena Crown vineyard in Eola-Amity Hills AVA. The grapes were hand-picked, hand-sorted and gently destemmed. The juice was cold-soaked for three days then fermented in open-top tanks and punched down 2-3 times per day during active fermentation. Post-fermentation free run was then transferred to tanks for one night of settling before racking to French oak barrels. The wine aged 9 months in 24% new oak. Winemaker Craig McAllister calls this 2015 "Sincere. Delicate. Nuanced. On the nose, violeta, star anise, marionberry and bay leaf. On the palate, raspberry, boysenberry, coffee bean, dark spice and orange zest. An elegant wine with supple tannins and a touch of cedar that adds complexity and length."

With estate vineyards in the Eola-Amity and Yamhill-Carlton AVA's they've been able to produce a wine that's La Crema style and quality but with the distinct fingerprint of the cool Willamette Valley. In 2014 98% of the fruit came from their estate vineyards. Grapes were fermented in open top tanks hand punched three times a day. Then it went into 25% new French oak barrel for 9 months of aging. In 2013 La Crema showed they really know how to craft an excellent Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and 2014 is being called one of the best vintages ever for Oregon so we expect the accolade to start rolling in for this wine any time now. It shows a beautiful intensity and a lively palate that delivers bright strawberry and raspberry notes combined with a savory, earthiness and rich texture. This a steal for high quality Willamette Valley Pinot.
