La Crema Pinot Noir Sonoma County 2014

Editorial Review by Snooth Editorial:

Ripe black cherry and spice aromas. Tart cranberry notes on entry with light earth and herbal freshness, notes of raspberry and strawberry coming through the midpalate and a licorice, medicinal note towards the finish with light tannins and more earthiness.

Had this with lunch the other day. Imminently - immediately forgettable, with nothing of note to be remembered, so say I. However Tasting Panel has it at 90 points - Winemaker has this - 'Wild strawberry, red plum, rose petals and baking spice aromas. Bing cherry, cola, cranberry and black tea flavors. Lingering hints of mocha are cradled by supple tannins and balanced acidity.' I see the Wild Strawberry, but that is about all.

Ripe cherries on the nose with a bit of alcohol. Lightly sweet cherries in the mouth with good acidity and a long drying finish.

This is the oft touted Pinot Noir from Sonoma. A big wine with a strong nose of oak, earth, and cherries. On the palate, cherries, tobacco, and new oak. Also has a very nice chocolate undertone. The star of this Pinot, though, is the velvety tannins and long finish. The wine has medium plus complexity with well balanced acidity. I wish this could be an everyday drinker, although at $20/bottle its not yet in my range.

Oh.My.God. Is that what Pinot Noir is supposed to taste like? An overall overwhelming experience. The Nose is earthy and hints at what is to come. The palate...so subtle...I'm too inexperienced to pick out the indvidual notes...but hugely pleasing. The back end...an exclamation point, which lingers enough to entice you for the next sip. The weaker ears should avert their eyes...an orgasm in every glass. I can only hope that it doesn't get any better than this (or do I?).

Sonoma Coast, CaliforniaWine Spectator 90 points - Dried cherry, allspice and poached plum flavors show plenty of hot stone and brick notes, with cardamom and sandalwood details on the creamy finish. Drink now through 2021. 100,000 cases made. -KM.November/2018THE SERIES: SONOMA COAST Since 1979, La Crema has crafted the traditional wine varietals of Burgundy in the cool vineyards of the Sonoma Coast. This coastal regions boundary begins at the Mendocino County border, continues along the western coastal edge of Sonoma County through the mouth of the Russian River Valley; and extends to the Los Carneros region on the southern Sonoma/Napa border. Our Sonoma Coast wines are a tribute to the tremendously fresh, concentrated and layered palette of flavors offered by these coastal vineyards. Crafted one barrel at a time at our family-owned winery, Sonoma Coast wines offer exceptional balance and fruit intensity. THE PLACE: SONOMA COAST Like the Burgundy wine region of France, the vineyards of the Sonoma Coast offer an unusually long, cool and steady growing season. Lingering fog and wind from the nearby Pacific Ocean moderate temperatures throughout the season and slow the ripening process. With an extended hang time on the vines, the results at harvest are small berries with firm acidity and highly concentrated varietal aromas and flavors.

The 2009 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir offers aromas of lush cherry and red plum, with subtle hints of black tea and cola. On the palate, avors are ripe and elegant, centering on red cherry and spice with a touch of earthiness and dark chocolate. A rich, juicy mid-palate and vivid acidity lead to plush tannins on the finish.
