La Crema Pinot Noir Carneros 2012
With this release, our goal is to capture Los Carneros’ velvety texture, ripe cherry and deep, earthy spice. This block is planted to clones 667, Calera, Swan, 2A, Pommard and 777, which provide us with multiple layers of aromatics and complexity – particularly in this excellent growing season. At harvest time, we hand-picked the fruit in the cool, early morning – the grapes arriving within hours at the winery in small, half-ton boxes. After destemming, the must was left to rest for five days with 70% whole berries in tank. This cold soak at 48°F extracted intense color from the skins. To fully capture the fruit’s radiant, deep red tones in the glass, fermentation took place in open top tanks. Rather than utilizing pump overs, we gently pushed the cap of skins down several times each¬ day to extract just the right amount of color and velvety tannin texture from the skins and seeds. When fermentation was complete, the wine was racked to French oak barrels (33% new) for nine months of barrel aging. The wine was not racked out of barrel until blending just prior to bottling
This was part of a Sonoma County trip to Healdsburg/Russian River for some wine tasting fun! Good nose. Light and smooth with hints of dark cherry, minerality and spices. This was overall great except for the good finish with bitter tannins. For more please visit http://dionyshius.blogspot.com/2012/07/russian-river-healdsburg.html
This was part of a Sonoma County trip to Healdsburg/Russian River for some wine tasting fun! This had more of a stronger fruity nose. Fruit forward with hints of berries and cherries, this was a little flat and could use more acid especially with the strong tannins and good spices. Lingers for awhile. A good, drinkable wine. Someone described it as a wine to bring to someone's house.

Rating: 87/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. Middling in depth and middling in focus and always finding just enough fruit at its heart to gain commendation, this wine mixes ripe cherry notes with a hint of vineyard soils and a whisper of a green twig element in its aromas. Piquant red cherry fruit follows a slightly rounded entry, and the wine stays on the bright, just a tad tight side all the way to the end.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.

Winemaker Notes - Aromas of ripe cherry, cocoa, anise and rich baking spices. Plush flavors of cherry, plum and pomegranate meld with hints of delicate tea leaf. Structured, balanced acidity and elegant, firm tannins round out the mouth.
An oak aged Pinot Noir (25% new) that's full of pretty red berried fruit and a touch of spice. La Crema has been making wines in the cool vineyards of the Sonoma Coast since 1979.
Food Pairings for La Crema Pinot Noir Carneros
Here at La Crema, we’re passionate when it comes to terroir. Technically, it means the absolutely unique characteristics of a site – soil, wind, temperature, cosmic influences, neighboring lavender fields, distance from the sea. In another sense, it simply means that one wine cannot be duplicated anywhere else. Our Appellation wines are built on this concept. A bit of alchemy, a dash of Mother Nature, a healthy dose of craftsmanship – all play a key role in these limited releases.
