La Crema Pinot Noir Carneros 2012
With this release, our goal is to capture Los Carneros’ velvety texture, ripe cherry and deep, earthy spice. This block is planted to clones 667, Calera, Swan, 2A, Pommard and 777, which provide us with multiple layers of aromatics and complexity – particularly in this excellent growing season. At harvest time, we hand-picked the fruit in the cool, early morning – the grapes arriving within hours at the winery in small, half-ton boxes. After destemming, the must was left to rest for ﬁve days with 70% whole berries in tank. This cold soak at 48°F extracted intense color from the skins. To fully capture the fruit’s radiant, deep red tones in the glass, fermentation took place in open top tanks. Rather than utilizing pump overs, we gently pushed the cap of skins down several times each¬ day to extract just the right amount of color and velvety tannin texture from the skins and seeds. When fermentation was complete, the wine was racked to French oak barrels (33% new) for nine months of barrel aging. The wine was not racked out of barrel until blending just prior to bottling

This was part of a Sonoma County trip to Healdsburg/Russian River for some wine tasting fun! This had more of a stronger fruity nose. Fruit forward with hints of berries and cherries, this was a little flat and could use more acid especially with the strong tannins and good spices. Lingers for awhile. A good, drinkable wine. Someone described it as a wine to bring to someone's house.
This is one of my favorite under $30 staples. I must have one of these in my collection at a given moment. Fabulously delicious.
I tried this as a desperate attempt to experience a $60 wine for under 30. Success!!!
first had this in Lone pine on a shoot...Loved it ever since best Pinot Noir for under $50...sometimes can be found at costco...good deal
