La Crema Chardonnay Sonoma 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

This Chardonnay opens with an intriguing interplay of lively citrus and subtle toasted oak, laced with just a kiss of butterscotch. The palate is round and nutty, with flavors of yellow apple and orange adding lushness, while well-balanced acidity creates a lovely vibrancy.

Soft on the nose with gentle scents of nectarine, flowers, a touch of wood spice and a top note of clover honey. Ripe and round in the mouth with a soft richness that’s appealing. The fruit shows off white peach tones and has a gentle honey, brown spice edge to it as well as some buttery, baked pastry notes. A rather desserty flavor profile. The structure helps freshen things up as the acids are really vibrant, lending a lemon note right through the moderately long, apple and pineapple toned finish. The oak pops a bit again on the finish, though with a few months of age, I expect it’ll integrate just fine. 88pts

Sweet apple fruit on the nose is paired with nicely judged oak that adds nuanced spice and toast aromas. This is full of green apple flavor early on the palate in a round and lush style with good supporting acids, gaining flavors of nectarine and wood spice on the slightly creamy backend before returning to nice sweet apple butter flavors on the moderately long finish. 88pts

La Crema has a great reputation for Chardonnay but I found their 2010 Sonoma Coast to be lighter than I expected. The nose was citrus and vanilla and quite pleasant. But in the mouth, it was a bit dilute and missing the complexity of the higher quality Chardonnays. There is no comparison between this and the Ventana Gold Stripe 2010. My rating -- 85

Thanks a million to Gallo Brothers, Sonoma-Cutrer and La Crema (Kendall Jackson) for helping us to experience this AVA. Superb for Burgundy Wine. One of my favorite wines right now.

Bright yellow. Fresh, highly perfumed aromas of citrus fruits, pear and fig, with suave floral and leesy nuances adding complexity. Juicy and expansive, offering bright orange and Meyer lemon flavors complemented by deeper suggestions of honey and ... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A bone-dry Chardonnay for drinking now. This shows great structure, with a keen cut of acidity that brightens the mineral-driven orange and pineapple flavors. Wine Enthusiast. A Chardonnay wine from California in USA. 2010 La Crema Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 750ml
