Spicy on the nose with a clear shot of toasty oak and vanilla layered over candied apple and cantaloupe fruit. Moderately rich on entry, and packed with sweet apple and meyer lemon fruit, this is a fruit forward style that shows nicely integrated oak and a gently creamy style. the richness here comes more from the fruiti than the cellar, with come creamy oak flavors emerging on the back end and toasty coconut toasted almond, and vanilla notes lingering on the moderately long finish. A fairly obvious fruit and oak style. 88pts

Tight on the nose with notes of graham crackers and fresh cream over green apple peels and growing spicy wood tones. Tight and slightly minerally on entry, this shows good tension in the mouth with a nice hint of caramel early on the palate, followed by sweet pear and apple fruit all fading into a smooth, gentle, spicy finish. Easy to drink and restrained but not particularly complex or deep. 87pts

Soft on the nose with gentle scents of nectarine, flowers, a touch of wood spice and a top note of clover honey. Ripe and round in the mouth with a soft richness that’s appealing. The fruit shows off white peach tones and has a gentle honey, brown spice edge to it as well as some buttery, baked pastry notes. A rather desserty flavor profile. The structure helps freshen things up as the acids are really vibrant, lending a lemon note right through the moderately long, apple and pineapple toned finish. The oak pops a bit again on the finish, though with a few months of age, I expect it’ll integrate just fine. 88pts

Sweet apple fruit on the nose is paired with nicely judged oak that adds nuanced spice and toast aromas. This is full of green apple flavor early on the palate in a round and lush style with good supporting acids, gaining flavors of nectarine and wood spice on the slightly creamy backend before returning to nice sweet apple butter flavors on the moderately long finish. 88pts

Soft and gently floral on the nose with reticent notes of pithy citrus fruits, tangelo and grapefruit, along with slow to emerge perfumey oak notes. This is rather seductive on the nose. Bright and light in the mouth, it does have a certain mouth-filling quality. The fruit is really transparent and fresh. The oak influence, while subtly adding spice to the wine, really seems to be about texture. Wonderfully balanced and fresh, the fresh citrus and sour apple fruit on the palate leads to a modest finish that ends with some block, if sweet and attractive wood tones. 89pts

Not a bad sonoma chardonnay but nothing exciting. A bit oaked with ripe stone fruit. More on the richer side as opposed to being citrus or mineral driven.

Now as a complete novice to white wines, I can only say what I've heard in the past, particularly that Chardonnay may be a more popular wine, perhaps a bit overdone, but heck I'll try anything once! The wine itself has lovely aromas of green grass, ample citrus, honey and just a hint of caramel. The taste is ripe and crisp, with very little of the tart fruit I so often encounter when I venture into the world of white wine. I would characterize this wine as a classic, buttery sort of Chardonnay, with many rich flavors that would be perfect with a varierty of fall and winter dishes. The finish is somewhat soft with some metallic notes, but ultimately a very nice wine. Strong green apple flavor with less creamy/buttery finish than I remember from other vintages. Enjoyed with mahi mahi and zucchini. Maybe better with a chicken dish.

In my opinion, the Monterrey blows the Sonoma out of the water. Complex and ripe with tropical fruit and a luscious mouthfeel.

La Crema has a great reputation for Chardonnay but I found their 2010 Sonoma Coast to be lighter than I expected. The nose was citrus and vanilla and quite pleasant. But in the mouth, it was a bit dilute and missing the complexity of the higher quality Chardonnays. There is no comparison between this and the Ventana Gold Stripe 2010. My rating -- 85

Similar to the Burgundy region of France, our vineyards offer an unusually long, cool and even growing season. Perhaps our most popular release overall, the Sonoma Coast Chardonnay opens with an intriguing interplay of lively citrus and subtle toasted oak, laced with just a kiss of butterscotch.

Green-tinged gold. Lively citrus zest and quince aromas are complemented by suggestions of white flowers and chalky minerals. Racy, precise and nicely concentrated, offering zesty lemon and orange flavors and bright mineral lift. Finishes on a subtle note of iodine, with very good clarity and cut. This wine delivers fantastic value.

Complex, if on a modest scale, with pleasing notes of spice, creamy oak and green tree fruits. Drink now.
