Deep inky ruby. Sweet, slightly high-toned aromas of black cherry and smoky black plum, plus hints of violet, ketchup and bay leaf. Then wonderfully lush and sweet, with savory and mineral notes and sound acids giving definition and lift to the ripe fruit flavors. While this has no pretensions toward superconcentration, it is nonetheless an easygoing, highly quaffable, soft red. A pleasant black pepper note kicks in on the moderately persistent finish.
This ruby wine is plump and ripe and full of bright berry flavors. In the background, yoursquo;ll find spice, root beer and molasses for additional complexity and texture. Pair it with chicken stuffed with wild mushrooms.
The name Solyss is derived from the Latin word for sun, and beautiful bright sunshine is something that's never lacking in the Puglia region of Southern Italy. La Corte wanted to take the utmost advantage of this favorable climate to bring out the best in the traditional indigenous grape varieties like, Negroamaro. So they hired super star wine maker Chris Ringland who's made multiple 100 point wines in Australia from old vines grapes. He produced this 100% Negroamaro using grapes from 60 year old vines. The intensity and concentration comes through brilliantly as does the bright fruit. Solyss is a round, full bodied wine with sleek style and superb balance. A far cry from the rustic style often associated with this varietal.
