La Clarte de Haut-Brion Graves Blanc 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"This is insane. i am speechless. it twists your palate with so much character and intensity. Better than the 2005, and i gave that 100 points. full yet refined. intense yet reserved...100" JS 6/11 "A blend of 54% Sauvignon Blanc and 46% Semillon, this singular, compelling white exhibits notes of orange blossoms, lemons, melons, crushed rocks, spice and flowers. Although by all accounts the vine has been rampant in these parts since at least Roman times, the earliest written mention that our archivist has discovered, citing a parcel of vines being cultivated at Haut-Brion dates back to only 1423. In the early days wines were known by the name of the parishes from whence they came. Later they became known as clarets. In the case of Haut-Brion, under the great stewardship of the Pontac family the wine's reputation was for years represented by the name of this enlightened and well respected family-- Pontac wine. Eventually as its renown grew, the name of the Estate came to replace that of its owners. The notion of a Great Growth was born! We find the first written mention of the wine in the Diaries of Samuel Pepys. While visiting the Royal Oak Tavern in London on April 10, 1663 Pepys wrote "There I drank a sort of French wine called Ho-Bryan (sic) which hath a good and most particular taste which I never before encountered....." Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Shows good structure with a graphite edge running from start to finish. This is accessible now featuring pure cassis boysenberry and blackberry fruit displaying lovely flickers of spice and ember on the finish. Drink now through 2022. -JM Wine Spectator.

La Mission Haut Brion is produced from a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon 37% Merlot and a dollop of Cabernet Franc. The wine reached 15.1% natural alcohol with pH levels of 3.67. This picture is very different than what we saw in 2009 which was made from equal parts Merlot and cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc. 2010 is slightly higher in alcohol as the 2009 reached 14.7. Tasters who go by the numbers might have problems with the wine but there was no sensation of heat. Everything is in balance. This is a contender for the highest concentration of Cabernet Sauvignon in the history of La Mission Haut Brion. This is due to a combination of the perfect levels of ripeness reached in the Cabernet Sauvignon and the draught plagued Merlot which had problems ripening correctly. . 2010 La Mission Haut Brion explodes with earth minerals cassis burning embers truffle and blackberry scents. This opens to a dense concentrated full bodied tannic wine. This powerful La Mission Haut Br

Attractive spicy nose with coffee and chocolate. Some juniper and black pepper. Blueberries and dark cherries. Vibrant and smooth on the palate with good fruit and fine soft tannins. Smooth long finish. Second wine of Haut-Bailly. Drink after 2015. James Suckling.

Chewy and brambly but integrated this carries a very hefty core of espresso ganache mulled plum and blackberry fruit. The purity starts to shine through on the finish which drips with cassis and is threaded with a long warm paving stone note. Tight and backward today this extremely well-built wine will need substantial cellaring. Best from 2018 through 2035. -JM Wine Spectator.

Intense and engaging. Despite showing lots of heft and tarry grip the singed apple wood and alder notes are well-defined in this red accentuating a core of roasted fig blackberry coulis and macerated red and black currant fruit. The long bramble-edged finish sports showy ganache and Lapsang souchong tea notes while the structure refuses to yield until everything has finally played out. Muscular and vivacious. Best from 2019 through 2040. -JM Wine Spectator.

62% cabernet sauvignon 37% merlot and 1% cabernet franc. It is aged for 18-22 months in new oak. From 27 hectares of gravelly clay soil. Ten percent less production than 2009. This looms much larger than the second wine with a nose full of spice black tea and dried tobacco. Pure power on the palate this is dense but still somehow weightless with tannins packed very tight. Flavors of licorice black cherry truffle and chocolate abound on the palate. The freshness and density balances the 1
