La Caussade Sainte Croix du Mont 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

The chalky soil deriving from fossilized oyster shells, is perfect for enhancing the flavors of Semillion and Sauvignon blanc, particularly in late harvest and noble wine styles. For this reason they make an outstanding wine that competes with any Sauternes.

Reticent on the nose with sweet aromas of coffee and cola plus a hint of rhubarb. This gains nice subtle nuance with some air. A bit tightly knit in the mouth, this is not a big wine but it shows a bit of firmness to the tannins. There are nicely layers of flavor here, dried herbs, well judged oak, soft warm red plum and cherry fruit. It's all knit together very well if in an unassuming package. The finish is fairly long, and show a lovely edge of sour berry fruits and nice ripe fruit tannins with just a hint of vanilla. Subtle and elegant. 88pts

Complex ripe citrus fruit, on the nose. 2008 with a polite acidity. Try it.

This wine shows what Chile does really well from one of my favourite producers, that goes from strength to strength. It's very well made and youthful, great to drink now. BUT it is more than a 'cheap' varietal. There's perhaps more expression of the grape than the terroir but it's all there - gooseberries on the nose with minerally overtones, a hint of damp grass and bell peppers too. It has a lovely balance of green fruits and fresh acidity, and is quite rich. Good finish. 17/20

This is a crisp and clean white Bordeaux that has a lovely mouth-filling texture and pithy fruit character. As much as we adore the lean and mineraled Loire Valley take on Sauvignon Blanc, we also enjoy the rounder style unique to Bordeaux.

Classic, minerally Chavignol from one of the communes best and steepest vineyards. The wine is rich, fat, round, with layered aromas, a subtle nose and a long finish. Not a typical bistro Sancerre, but a graceful wine meant for ageing and pleasure.

Dark and roasted, with lots of espresso, tobacco and bittersweet cocoa flavors layered with plum sauce and black currant notes. Sage and espresso linger through the finish. For fans of the heftier style. Drink now through 2012. 2,600 cases imported. -JM

Weingut: Montes Land: ChileRegion: Casablanca ValleyRebsorte: 100% Sauvignon BlancAlkoholgehalt: 13,0 Vol. %Inhalt: 0,75 lEmpfohlene Serviertemperatur: 10 - 12°CFassreife: Ausbau in StahltanksLagerfähigkeit: 1 - 2 Jahre ab Jahrgang Weißwein > Chile > Casablanca Valley
