La Bastide Blanche Bandol 2012
I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/32795 for £10.Bandol is an AOC created in 1941 for red, white and rose wines from the area around the mediteranean seaside town of that name between Toulon and Marseilles.La Bastide Blanche is one of the better known producers and has been owned by the Bronzo brothers since 1972..The AOC rules state that the reds must be at least 50% Mourverde and this one is 80% mourverde,15% grenache and 5% cinsault and is aged in oak barrels..I started my bottle the other evening with my pork chop supper.I liked it as there is plenty of fruit [think plums and blackcurrants] but it is quite tannic.I left the half-full open bottle on the table until the following evening but it had not softened up by much.Perhaps this would be better with a few more years of bottle age.I still enjoyed it though
Medium to big bodied French red blend. Interesting souther Rhone mainly composed of Mourvedre. Somewhat cab like, with dusty tannins, dark red and dark blue fruit, slightly spicy on the mid-palate and a long finish.
One and a half glasses
I am known, and oft-mocked, for my love of borderline-faulty farmyard and sticking plaster qualities in reds. This one's for me: pure sticking plaster. Heavy tannins but enough fruit to balance. Fascinating.

External Reviews for La Bastide Blanche Bandol
Here is a rosé that marries spicy flavors of garrigue, pepper, and herbes de Provence with almost candied strawberry fruit. Round for a Mediterranean rosé, La Bastide Blanche offers a winning combination of weight and nervy acidity.
Plush and rich, with dense flavors of dark cherry, fig, licorice and dark chocolate. The powerful finish lingers with notes of mocha, smoke and roast beef. Needs time. Best from 2010 through 2014. 150 cases imported.
Domaine Bastide Blanche Bandol Rose Provence One of our favorite Roses, it is sophisticated and full with deep concentration and extract.
Our favorite Provencal red, this Mourvedre dominant cuvee displays the unique spice-box, woodsy, gamey scents and flavors to be found in no other red wine! A great value.
The red wine of La Bastide Blanche is crafted from low yielding Mouvèdre, some Grenache and a dash of Cinsault. Presenting a beautiful deep garnet color in the glass, powerful, wild aromas of licorice, spiced black fruits envelope the wine's dense and tannic texture. This is a wine for wild game, grilled meats and rustic cheeses. 1997 was at first regarded with skepticism, now one knows that these are balanced, expressive and elegant examples of the appellation.
