Kurpiowski Royal Mead

Member Review by la dut:

Being the first mead I've tried, I'm having a hard time figuring out what to make of this. Attractively bottled, this wine pours thick and viscous, leaving almost oily sheets on the sides of the glass. The color itself is stunning: Dark amber with slight pinkish hues throughout. The nose to me smelled a bit barnyard-like, very similar to buckwheat honey. Sweet nose with a slight pungency and berry and floral undertones. Full-bodied and sweet, the wine felt viscous and syrupy on the palate, becoming pungent after a few moments and exhibiting some pepper-like irritation along the front palate. Honey and currants, along with hints of holiday spice (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, that sort of thing). It finishes with a lingering warmth, slight honey sweetness, and raisin or dried blackcurrant. This bottle was stored in questionable conditions, bought at 50% off, sat in my hot room for months, and is still delicious. Fuck yeah!
