Kunde Meritage 202 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

"When Louis Kunde started making wine over a hundred years ago, he wasn’t thinking about heritage and tradition. He just wanted to grow excellent grapes and sell outstanding wine. But that original bonded winery number, “202”, still represents the Kunde Family Estate today. And our “202” Meritage connects us to another great tradition: the red wines of Bordeaux. This 2007 vintage of Meritage is a new first for us—along with our usual blend of Cabernet and Merlot, we’ve invited Malbec and Petit Verdot to the party. There’s no shortage of character here: raspberries, dark chocolate and a pleasing hint of rosemary and spice make up a mouthful of flavor. A pot roast with carrots and potatoes sounds great with “202”. Duck breasts with raspberry sauce? Even better!

Silky and luscious, driven by red berry fruit backed up by blackberry. Some smoke. Dry tannins. Well structured and layered. Nice! - Tasted at winery Feb 2011
