Kunde Estate Syrah Sonoma Valley 2008
Spicy on the nose with gentle leafy and citrus undercurrents to the crisp juniper berry fruit that show accents of black pepper and grilled meats. Fluid in the mouth with fine grained tannins that make this just a touch chewy at this stage and fresh acidity that help support the core of black raspberry fruit.the finish is moderately long with notes of pollenny flowers and cocoa adding some detail. 87ptsAdd winemaker's notes
Family owned and operated for five generations, Kunde Family Estate produces ultra-premium, estate-grown wines that are sustainably farmed in the finest traditions of Northern California's renowned Sonoma Valley.
RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Deep dark chocolately nose gains smoky oak, light spice with salty/sour plum fruit edged with roasted coffee oak then a minor brett/poop tones builds Mouth filling with fine balance and a real polished feel to the very fine tannins, a smidge soft acid though. The fruit is deep and plummy/ sour plum; touch green plum with a vanilla toned, nutty, almond edge. Pepper and spice and fresh anise pop on the moderately long finish which reveals a bit of stiff structure could use 1- 3 years in the cellar, nice fresh green note on the finish with emerging notes of dark crystallized plum, violet, and chocolate 92pts
A very one dimensional wine with a heavy fruit forward profile. Not really memorable or unique, it still has it's place for a weekday barbecue with friends learning about different wines. I would present it as a Sonoma wine that is widely available and is an easy drinking red from a nice piece of land in the County. Too bad it doesn't show any character right now, nor will it develop any in the future. Drink today and move on!
I concur with Gregory's review regarding the berry, black pepper and citrus aromas. Be sure to let this wine breathe for at least 1/2 hour before drinking, otherwise the spicy and high, tart notes will be overbearing. Let it open up - you'll be glad you did when the deeper fruit and berry flavors that have been hidden escape and assault your palette. With the moderately long finish you can expect some florals and even a hint of leather. Enjoy!
Strong tannins and strong alcohol taste. Probably best if decanted.
Soft and well balanced, berry and earthy flavor, with slight floral undertones and spice on the finish. Picked this up at Grocery Outlet for $4.99 a bottle... a definite steal!
Choc aromas. Deep color. Spiciness. Plums & Raspberries. Soft tannins.
Three and a half glasses
