Kunde Estate Merlot Sonoma Valley 2005
There's talk these days of Merlot making a "comeback"; the fact is it never went away. A glass of the 2005 Kunde Family Estate Merlot will quickly tell you why. Classic aromas of cherries and tea leaves greet your nose and come through in the flavors, joined by some exotic sandalwood notes. The feeling on your palate is relaxed and full, the kind of wine you'll want to drink often. What's our secret? Balanced vines growing just the right amount of fruit in iron-rich volcanic soil. The only comeback you'll be contemplating is, "When will another bottle come back to my dinner table?"
Family owned and operated for five generations, Kunde Family Estate produces ultra-premium, estate-grown wines that are sustainably farmed in the finest traditions of Northern California's renowned Sonoma Valley.
External Reviews for Kunde Estate Merlot Sonoma Valley
Kunde is a family owned wine estate in Sonoma Valley that’s been around for over 100 years. All of its wines are estate bottled, produced from grapes grown in its own 1,850 acres of vineyards, which is very unique in this day and age. What else is unique about Kunde is their commitment to sustainable farming and environmentally beneficial practices throughout the winery. Last year the state of California recognized Kunde Estate and awarded it the Governors Environmental and Economic Leadership Award. This is California's highest environmental honor; quite an accomplishment in a state known for leading the way on environmental initiatives. And with that, they still make outstanding wines. This Merlot is a full bodied red that shows depth and expression. It has ripe fruit but in a complex framework of lively but elegant tannins. Blackberry, cassis, herbs, chocolate and cedar notes stand out on the palate. This is a Cab lover’s Merlot.
