Kunde Estate Chardonnay Sonoma Valley 2005
Winemaker's Comments "Imagine a wine with aromas of fresh apples, pears, and yeasty bread dough. Imagine a wine with rich, luscious flavors of baked apples spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, made lively by good natural acidity. Imagine that it is the 2005 Kunde Estate Reserve Chardonnay - wait! No imagination required! That wine is the 2005 Kunde Reserve. Now imagine it with fettucine in cream sauce studded with bay shrimp. Yummy!" Harvest/Winemaking The heart of this blend comes from our Kinneybrook Block 24, grown from budwood taken from various Wente clones and one from Washington state. We added in a good portion of grapes grown from Italian Chardonnay vines to create the usual complexity we expect from a Kunde Reserve. Food Pairing Fettucini Alfredo with fresh bay shrimp
Family owned and operated for five generations, Kunde Family Estate produces ultra-premium, estate-grown wines that are sustainably farmed in the finest traditions of Northern California's renowned Sonoma Valley.
RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
Editorial Reviews for Kunde Estate Chardonnay Sonoma Valley
Very intensely perfumed with a rich vein of butter accented by notes of lychee, flowers and herbs. On the palate this is soft, but round and somewhat weighty with a nice mineral tone that cuts through the core of apricot and orange marmalade fruit. The woodspice and cream notes that emerge toward the backend fan out on the finish which adds a nice floral note on the finale. 88pts
Very buttery and nutty. The nose on this wine is unique - cashew nuts and peanut brittle mingle with bruised over ripe papaya and mango. In the mouth the wine is very emollient with a very silky mouth filling feel. Lots of oak in the wine, giving it a great golden color, some sugar and a butteriness. The wine has undergone malolactic fermentation and the remaining acids, which are quite firm and strong, are now more supple and milky. I liked it, but it was a little too fruity, oaky and sweet for some.
Lots of nutty character, oak and roasted nuts. Vanilla. A nutty oak-bomb.
classic example of a Cali Chardonnay, aromas of oak, bruised fruit, golden apples, brittle cashew, tropical and overflowing with warm fruit and tastes of the oak
Spicy nutty nose. A soft flavor of musty yellow caramel and a good deal of lactic acid. Interesting for a glass but not two.
Rich, sweet and savory.
So smooth. What an excellent surprise for an impulse buy.
