User Reviews for Krug Grande Cuvée
Add your reviewAged in neutral barrels with 6 years on the lees, this gives it its incredibly nutty nose, and its oily character. Sweet peach flavor and a fine bead, coupled with the acids, firm, but not overpowering, make this an exceptional wine. Great, extended, finish with subtle fig notes.
Finally getting round to drinking this bottle to celebrate my daughters 1st birthday as it should require a special occasion to bring something like this out. Its been sitting in the sideboard for over 3.5 years and ther wait was worth it and can see what the fuss is all about. Beautifully deep golden amber in appearance, it just melts effortlessly in the mouth but packs a big vanilla, toast, brioche and a slight tropical hint. Its an expensive one but worth it.
I bought 5 bottles of Krug's Grande Cuvée (at very interesting 'discount' prices) in 1998 and we drank the last bottle in February 2008. Every bottle was an experience. If well-stored in a cool cellar, this champagne retains its qualities for at least 10 years, even developping additional nuances and finesse with extended bottle age. Its poise, depth and acidity verge on perfection.
Possibly the best wine I've ever had. Too complex for me to even describe. God, I love Champagne.
I agree with all of you. To quote a wine reviewer I read somewhere, "It's like meursault with bubbles!" I love the heaviness and spiciness of this Champagne.

94 points Wine Spectator: `A complex refined Champagne with vanilla coconut lemon and mineral aromas and flavors. Fresh and elegant yet deep and persistent evoking whole-grain toast. This dovetails nicely on the lingering finish. Drink now through 2012.` (11/08) 92 points Robert Parker (12/02) 92 points and 2 Puffs from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: `Is it too old or just right? Very few sparkling wines of any stripe are as complex as the Krug Grande Cuvee a blending of old and young into a layered toasty nutty subtly ripe apple aroma with hints of French Roast all tied to a refined yet fully charged set of bubbles. Rich creamy almost fleshy for the breed this latest version is both a dream come true for lovers of aged Champagne and a challenge for folks who prefer a lighter brisker more citrusy style.`
A powerful, well-toned Champagne, featuring coconut, toast, grapefruit and coffee aromas and flavors. There are plenty of bass notes, punctuated by crisp acidity, and it all comes together on the fine texture, with aftertaste of roasted hazelnut and ... Wine Spectator. I've always loved the bold, oxidative, exotically spiced style of Krug's "multi-vintage" entry level superstar. The nose alone is worth savouring with its mouth-wateringly fresh baked apple pie and marzipan scents. The palate is rich, full-flavoured ... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A brilliantly made wine of great finesse and power. This is the blending art raised to its highest level.
The richest Champagne style produced today. Barrel fermentation and plenty of Pinot Noir give this the power that lovers of full bodied Champagne crave!
Krug Grande Cuvée is the timelessly stylish signature of Krug, a breathtaking champagne that effortlessly balances richness and freshness, power and finesse. Out of contrast, harmony - a sensational taste experience. TASTEA gleaming gold colour, an extravagantly expansive bouquet, an almost creamy texture. Then, an explosion of flavours, at once mellow and mature, crisp and clean. Toast - Soft spices - Dried fruit - Candied fruitCOMPOSITIONKrug Grande Cuvée is the supreme demonstration of the Krug art of blending. No recipe can define its intricate harmony, so every year the Krug family works from taste and memory alone to recreate this most complex of champagnes. Typically, Krug Grande Cuvée is blended from as many as 50 wines from three grape varieties, 20 to 25 growths, and six to ten different years. ...Toasty, smoky aromas are joined by fresh lemon and orange tones, against a bright mineral background. Very fresh and bright for this wine, showing green apple and Anjou pear flavors complemented by subtle buttered toast tones that build with air. ... Stephen Tanzer.
