Kramer Vineyards Merlot Walla Walla Valley 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

We purchased this wine on the bulk market in April 2009. We believed the wine displayed lovely fruit and good structure, but needed a bit more time to develop in the mid-palate. We decided to age the wine in 25% new American oak barrels for four months to build mid-palate depth and bring out more of the spicy characteristics.

Tasting Notes:

This big, complex red wine is a deep, dark garnet color. Aromas of vanilla, maple, oak, cherry and raspberry with a hint of coffee. This wine is very soft in the mouth, with round, moderate tannins, but enough acidity for balance. Velvety spices, lush fruit including blackberry, cassis, and plum, with oak give way to a long finish with chocolate and spice. This wine is excellent now, but may be cellared for 5-7 years.
