What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

Huge, loads of finesse. The perfect pinot. Light-medium tannin and acid. Long. Plummy. Integrated. Massive, but restrained. Strawberry.

Our 2006 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a blend of four vineyards. Three of these are located near the southern end of the Russian River Valley appellation. We recommend drinking this wine between 2009 and 2014. Complex and enticing. Ripe black cherrry, lush blackberry with earthy undertones of mushroom, smoke and a dusting of cocoa. A true expression of Sonoma Coast, the 2006 vintage is deep and read more...

Medium red. Energetic red berries, minerals and fresh flowers on the nose, complicated by Asian spices and pungent herbs. Racy and sharply focused, offering tangy redcurrant and wild strawberry flavors. Bracing minerality adds cut to the long, spicy ... Stephen Tanzer. Very Fruity and young. Must be decanted at least an hour if opened before 2009. Once decanted it opens up and is delicious.
