In 1995, Kooyong was established on a gently undulating 93 hectare property neighbouring Devilbend Reserve, home to many native water birds. The Kooyong name means 'where the wild fowl gather'. The vineyard and winery are part of the Gjergja family domain which also includes Port Phillip Estate. Kooyong is planted to 30 hectares of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris vineyards, all north facing to maximise their exposure to the sun. There are five distinct vineyards of which three are planted to Pinot Noir, two predominantly to Chardonnay, and a small section of Pinot Gris. A small amount of Viognier is also planted on the property. Read less

I'm generally not a fan of Pinot outside Burgundy but this one is done right. Medium-bodied as it should be, with red berry flavors tempered by black tea and maybe a little dark chocolate. Nicely balanced and a finish that gets better as it lingers on the palate. My only reservation? It's very pricey, and in this economy, a $75-80 Pinot from Australia is a very hard sell.

As deeply coloured as Ferrous; the ripest (apparently) and most powerful, especially in terms of structure; some foresty tannins just make their presence felt, and add to the character of the wine. James Halliday. A Pinot Noir wine from Victoria in Australia. 2005 Kooyong Pinot Noir Haven 750ml
