Konzelmann Riesling 2009

External Review:

Herbert Konzelmann moved from Germany to the Niagara Peninsula to make wine. His affinity for Riesling shows in this delightful, well-made wine. Try this charmer with pasta salad or spicy shrimp with snowpeas.

The Konzelmann Estate Wines are enjoyed by wine enthusiasts from over the world. It's a great travel destination for all wine lovers. The Protection Provided by the Nearby Niagara Escarpment, combined with the moderating influence of the lake, provides a longer growing period for the "noble" Vitis vinifera vines of Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Chardonnay grapes. The cool-climate viticulture conditions are often enhanced by a "Indian Summer" warming in autumn that allows a late harvest. The fine acid balance and natural sugar content of the grapes are maximized and the wine is full-bodied. Read less

Pay homage to our neighbors from the North and raise a glass of Riesling! Medium-dry, with ripe apricot and lychee fruit wrapped around a core of acidity. Both quaffable and food-friendly.

Fresh and clean like a summer waterfall, with flavors of tropical fruit and melon and just a pinch of residual sugar.

This elegant Riesling is slightly sweet and has a bouquet of honey and tropical fruit. An enjoyable, long finish follows a soft mouthfeel, with intense tropical flavors balanced by a crisp acidity.

An aromatic nose of pear, citrus and apple leads this friendly, balanced Riesling. Like flavors of pear and apple with a spicy finish round out the package. A pretty wine to pair with spicy food or cheeses and dessert.

This comes off as more dry than sweet, the sugar countered by racy acidity and a slightly bitter green note. That balance recalls green papaya salad, with which it would be good.
