Kongsgaard White Rhone Blend Napa Valley Roussanne/Viognier 2002
half Viognier and half Roussanne, benefits from a vinification that is very different from the Chardonnay. The intense aroma is preserved by fermentation exclusively in older barrels and the wine is bottled after 10 months of barrel ageing. Parker has routinely called this flamboyant wine “the best white Rhone Ranger made north of San Francisco” and “one of California’s most exotic whites.” The production is limited to the yield of the four short rows we planted in the Judge vineyard after falling in love with these varieties on a tour of the Rhone Valley in 1992
Editorial Reviews for Kongsgaard White Rhone Blend Napa Valley Roussanne/Viognier
Very restarianed but balanced and elegant with aromatics that recall filterpads just a touch and lean more towards tea notes than overt fruit. At this stage a bit lean and a touch disjointed but still offering some subtle fruit on the finish.

($75; a 73/27 blend) Bright aromas of citrus and peach, with a piquant cyanic bitterness. Very dry and very fresh, with a tactile, phenolic quality that is supported by-or perhaps the result of-the wine's intense peach, apricot and mineral flavors. T... Stephen Tanzer.
