Koiné Primitivo Primitivo di Manduria 2010

External Review:

We don't want to scare you away but truth be told, this wine has a je ne sais quoi sort of funk to it. It's a little smoky, spicy, berried and leathery but it most definitely has a raw meat (gamey to be precise) element. Excellent with earthy foods, mushrooms, smoked meats, grilled lamb and the like.

Crazy little wine this. Little only in terms of production — it is not little in the timid sense. Huge powerful black and blue fruits jump out of the glass inviting you to take taste after taste. There are some interesting things on the mid- and end-palate too. Spice pepper and a hint of licorice. 100% stainless steel fermentation so the fruit really shines but with enough tannic structure that it does restrain that fruit. Bring on the osso buco!
