Kistler Pinot Noir Cuvée Elizabeth Occidental(2000)

The Wine Messenger
Issue 15, 3rd Quarter, 2004
80/100
July 2007
A syrah blue-black color. An ultra jammy, very oaky, incredibly ripe nose that displays distinct notes of mint and menthol lead to massive, super rich and ripe, extremely forward flavors and good length. To be sure, this is a dramatic wine carrying a tremendously hot finish and there is zero pinot character in evidence. This is very hard to like as there is no elegance, no detail, no complexity and the finishing warmth would make it almost impossible to successfully pair with food. In short, not my style and the excess alcohol clearly compromises the balance.
