REGION
VINEYARD
The fruit for this wine came from 25 year old vines, on the Stanway family vineyard at Watervale. The grapes were picked at a range of Baumes between the 7th March and 12th March, at 11.3 and 11.7 Baume respectively.
GROWING CONDITIONS
The growing season was most notable for the drought conditions experienced right through until a significant rain event in February. However, under-vine mulching and careful use of drip irrigation allowed a full leaf canopy to be maintained on the vines, and fruit was picked in excellent health, with great flavour read more...concentration.
WINEMAKING
The grapes were crushed and destemmed, then chilled prior to draining and pressing. The juice from each parcel was cool fermented in stainless steel, and the resultant wines racked and filtered prior to assembling the final blend. Bottling occurred soon after blending, to retain the characteristic crispness and finesse of this wine style.
ANALYSIS
pH 3.09 TA 8.57 Alc 12.2% Residual Sugar 2.0gms
WINEMAKER’S TASTING NOTES
This wine is a typically delicate yet full flavoured Clare Riesling, featuring a pale but vibrant colour, and lifted citrus and floral notes on the nose. The intensely flavoured palate shows sweet citrus fruit, subtle spicy notes, and mouth watering mineral acidity. This style of wine is delicious drinking while young, but use of the screw cap closure will ensure that its freshness is maintained as it develops toasty complexity over the next 10 years or more.
