Kirrihill Chardonnay Blend Clare Valley Companions 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

REGION Riverland, South Australia VINEYARD The grapes for this wine came from a vineyard located in the Waikerie region of the Riverland. With deep sandy soils, and an abundance of water and sunshine, this area is ideal for the production of premium quality Chardonnay. GROWING CONDITIONS 2004 produced a record crush for the Riverland region. The growing season was relatively mild, apart from a few days of excessive heat during February. Rainfall, and consequently disease pressure, was low. WINEMAKING Juice from fruit sourced in a Waikerie vineyard was cold-settled and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine then spent several months in two and three year old French oak barriques for added complexity and flavour. Bottled soon after stabilisation and filtering, to lock in the fresh fruit characters of the wine. ANALYSIS pH 3.27 TA 6.50 Alc 13.5% VA 0.38 Residual Sugar 3.7grams WINEMAKER’S TASTING NOTES Bright golden-yellow in colour. Fresh, fruity aromas of peach, nectarine and tropical fruit. Soft and generous in the mouth with zesty fruit and subtle complexing vanillin oak, followed by a clean zesty citrus finish. Short term cellaring potential.

Kirrihill Wines is located in the gently rolling hills of South Australia’s famous Clare Valley wine region 130kms north of Adelaide. We source grapes for our two ranges, the Single Vineyard Series and Companions, from some of the best growers in two of Australia’s finest cool climate regions, the Clare Valley and the Adelaide Hills. The vineyards range between 350 and 550 metres above sea level enabling our growers to produce high quality grapes. A higher altitude means a cooler climate with large variations in day and night-time temperatures and more intense sunlight. This in turn leads to a prolonged growing season concentrating the grapes’ colour and flavours. We have won more than 500 awards since our inaugural release and we have been awarded 4 stars by James Halliday in the 2010 edition of his Australian Wine Companion. “Grapes are sourced from specially selected parcels of Kirribilly’s 1300 ha of managed vineyards as well as the Edwards and Stanway families’ properties in these regions. The quality of the wines is thus no surprise.” We believe in delivering quality, value, consistency and innovation to our customers in every bottle we make. Here at Kirrihill Wines it’s all about the wine! Read less
