Earthy, gamey, licorice scent. Smooth. Licorice and toasty caramel with a tangy, long finish.
This is a huge glass of wine for the price. Spicy, rich and full bodied. Notes of cinnamon and robust black fruits. Alcohol is notable on the palate. Finish goes on and on.
Kiona produced the first commercial varietal Lemberger in the US in 1980, and we are still doing it better than anyone else. Rich red wine aromas with nuances of Cabernet or Merlot are present, but with a spicy background that’s not easy to identify at first tasting. Wonderful and well-defined aromas of blackberries and cloves emerge with more experience. This mildly tannic wine sports great structure, with a velvet mouth feel. American and French oak are evident in the long, smooth finish. Great glass of wine. Starts with a very nice aroma, has an excellent start and an even better finish.
I did not like this wine when i was first introduced to it (i was also a new wino). However i do enjoy this wine now.
A smooth wine, medium to full-bodied, fairly one-dimensional. Pleasant fruit, balanced by some acidity. Not much on the mid-palate.
