Kiona Estate Bottled Red Mountain Reserve Sangiovese 2004

Member Review by Lucha Vino:

On first opening the nose is dusty pie cherry with some toasty nut character. The palate is pie cherry with some creamy coconut notes and a slightly tart finish. One hour later the nose is featuring dusty clean cedar and cherries with some light creamy nuttiness on the finish. The palate is spicing things up with menthol and clove spices, cherries with subtle coconut that lingers on to a sweet nutty tart finish. One day later the nose is loaded with dark cherry, dusty spices and notes of coffee bean. The palate is also showing black cherry with toasted clove spices that carry over to a tart cedar finish with some hints of cocoa.

The Williams family planted the first vineyards on what is now known as the Red Mountain Appellation in 1975. Since then, Kiona Vineyards and Winery has developed a world-wide reputation for releasing wines of extraordinary quality year after year. Few wineries can claim to have the historical consistency in quality that Kiona is known for. For their unyielding determination to produce world-class wines, founders John and Ann Williams were among the inductees of the Washington Wine Hall of Fame in only its second year in existence in 2007. Kiona's wines have been winning awards against higher-priced competitors for several decades; in fact, Son and Winemaker Scott Williams has placed two wines on Wine Spectator's prestigious "100 Best Wines of the Year" list. Even after growing grapes and making wine for over 30 years, our passionate pursuit of quality in all aspects of our business perseveres. We hope you enjoy drinking our wine as much as we enjoy making it. Read less
