King Estate Vin Glacé Pinot Gris 2004

The 2004 Barbera d'Alba Riserva Pozzo dell'Annunziata explodes from the glass with layers of vibrant black cherries, plums, violets, smoke, minerals and sweet toasted oak. It is a restrained, cool Barbera Pozzo, yet it offers outstanding purity of expression, with silky, finessed tannins that caress the palate in an extraordinary display of elegance that transcends varietal. Voerzio also opened a bottle of the 2003, which he prefers, for comparison. It may be the more pleasurable wine today, but the 2004 is a notch or two above when it comes to potential. The 2004 saw 16 months of oak versus the 2003, which spent two years in oak. RP
There is only one cuvee of Chateauneuf du Pape in 2004, the Tradition, which is everything from the estate, a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and the rest Counoise and Cinsault. Remarkably, the Grenache comes from 80- to 100-year-old vines, the Syrah from 40-year-old vines. It is one of the vintage’s superstars with the inky/purple-colored wine offering up floral, sweet cassis notes intermixed with raspberry and cherry. The wine is full-bodied, richly textured, with beautiful floral and black fruit notes on the palate, full body, fabulous texture, and a ripe, sweet, expansive finish with relatively noticeable tannin. Give it 2–3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 20 years.
Stellenbosch, South AfricaVins d'Orrance Syrah Cuvee Ameena is a beautiful red wine gem from a small vineyard on the Simonsberg Mountain in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. Born and raised in France, in a family of Calvados producers, Christophe Durand moved to Cape Town in 1995. After finding a beautiful vineyard and creating his own label, his first wine came to life as a noteworthy 2001 Syrah called "Cuve Ameena," dedicated to his young daughter. This beautiful 2004 vintage that followed was awarded a 90-point rating from Wine Spectator.Vins d'Orrance Syrah Cuvee Ameena was all hand-picked and racked into French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and 14 months of aging, bottled unfined and unfiltered. The wine is deep ruby in color with an aromatic nose of blackberries, dark spices, white pepper and chocolate. On the palate, this full-bodied 100% Syrah shows rich flavors of cassis, blackberry, licorice, coffee and smoky oak. It is well balanced with silky tannins and a long, smooth finish.Enjoy Vins d'Orrance Syrah Cuvee Ameena over the next 3-4 years with pulled pork, baby back ribs, lamb stew and smoked Gouda.
A great core of fig, blackberry and black currant fruit, with racy acidity and fine-grained tannins that are the hallmark of 2004, this shows flashes of graphite, spice and mineral on the long, precise finish. Big step up from the 2003. Best from 2007 through 2026.

A solid red, with plum, dark chocolate and mineral notes. The muscular tannins overshadow the fruit, but there’s enough acidity for freshness and the fruit emerges on the finish. Cariñena, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha and Syrah. Best after 2008.
