King Estate Signature Pinot Noir 2013

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This just looks good, pale but vibrant with a lovely ruby tone. It’s very aromatic as well with cherry, soil, black raspberry and hints of pressed flowers and tree bark on the nose. –This is a lightweight wine but its got very nice pure, fresh Pinot fruit. There’s a hint of spice up front, and a touch of vanilla but the mid-palate is dominated by red berry fruit with integrated acidity and the softest tannins. It finishes with a nice mineral edge that gives it some mouthgrab and just a hint of heat. It’s got excellent length and is an all around crowd-pleasing style of Pinot but this is no cocktail wine. 87pts

Somewhat translucent muddied garnet color in the glass. Opens with smoked strawberry, herbs and bing cherry, blueberry, lavender, and moss and mint. Silky mouthfull, with a long finish. Soft and balanced tannins and acidity. As it opens more in the glass, hints of milk chocolate, mint and more earth and sage. Seems like it still needs a few years, but quite good.

Nose is full of bright fruits and spices, cherry, black pepper, blackberries. The mouth matches, with the pepper a bit more noticeable, and a body that's mostly composed of acidity, but a bit of oak and tannins on the release. The green apple bite is a little too much for me, but otherwise well built.

Spice, cherry and oak nose, hints of tar. Acidity is well balanced and lends good freshness. Cherry cola and light tar on the finish.

Light round almost sweet powdery cherry nose with a touch of dandelion. Medium body with nicely balanced acidity a delicate tar finish. Overall delicate but strong.

Cherry and lilacs on the nose. Very smooth and fruity with sweet fruit notes. Smooth, balanced finish.

Much riper and toastier than their 2011 Signature Pinot, this brings pretty flavors of raspberry and Bing cherry into play, with a dash of root beer as well. Engaging and accessible, it motors into a tart, tangy finish.

This fresh and polished red shows light-stepping cherry and guava flavors that linger with intensity. Drink now through 2017.

The 2010 Pinot Noir Signature Collection was tasted from a barrel sample. It displays a more expressive bouquet than the 2009, excellent depth and concentration, ripe red and black fruit flavors, and a medium-long finish. It reflects the excellence of the 2010 vintage. Give it 1–2 years of additional bottle age and drink it through 2020.

Sleek and sinewy, with vivid raspberry, strawberry and watermelon flavors that snake enticingly through the lithe, open structure. Finishes on a savory note. Drink now through 2016.
